Bucket List Bidets

As the proud owner of a bidet, you are hooked. No longer do you have to deal with the indignity of toilet paper. You look down your nose at all your neighbors, who are still stuck in their toilet paper ways. It’s the first thing you show guests when you give them a tour of the house. You’re the talk of the town.

But disaster.

You are heading off to one of your bucket list vacation spots. A dream vacation, truly. You’ve planned for months, booked your flight and hotel, and found activities. You couldn’t be any more excited.

Then the day of the trip finally comes. Exhausted after a long flight, you drag yourself up to your hotel room, thoughts focused only on one thing. Getting to the bathroom, so you can finally rest.

But when you swing open the bathroom door, you stop, shocked, confused, upset: there is no bidet.

You spend the rest of the trip shifting uncomfortably on buses, chafing on hikes, and depressed on the toilet. The comfort and peace you’ve come to expect from your bathroom experience are nowhere to be found. Your mood, backside, and vacation are all ruined.

Don’t let this happen to you.

With the rising price of luggage, it’s impractical to bring your bidet with you on the plane, so you have no choice but to accept whatever your hotel can offer.

But never fear. Among the countless bidet-less hotels, there are shining beacons of sanitation and comfort. You don’t need to put your dream vacation on hold!

Top 10 Bucket List Vacation Spots

In 2019, the Big 7 Travel website polled its audience of 1.5 million to find the places people dream of visiting[1]. We’re going to take it a step further and let you know what top-rated hotels include bidets, whether you’re leaving yours at home or just want to know what all the hype is about.

1. Bali, Indonesia—Padma Resort Ubud

At number one on our list is Bali, Indonesia, a gorgeous island paradise with unique flora and fauna and idyllic beaches. However, these beaches are less idyllic if you don’t have access to a bidet. If you want to explore the famous Pura Besakih temple on the top of Bali’s tallest mountain in comfort, consider booking a room at the Padma Resort Ubud[2].

Located in the Payangan region, in the heart of Bali, the Padma Resort Ubud overlooks a river valley surrounded by bamboo forests. Apart from the access to bidets, the resort has other fantastic amenities, including an infinity swimming pool.

Reviews mention how it’s a great place to take the entire family. There’s a mini zoo to take the kids and options for the adults, like a mixology class and bike tours.

The bathrooms are glossy and modern, with marble fixtures, a deep stand-alone bathtub, and a jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking the forest.  And, of course, the bathroom features a bidet, so after a long day of exploring the woods and seeing Balinese architecture, you can relax in comfort.

2. Paris, France—Maison Souquet

France, home of the bidet. Along with such a distinguished title, Paris is also home to some of the most iconic tourist destinations in Europe and the world.

It’s time for you to finally see its famous landmarks, such as its cathedrals, the Eiffel Tower, and the Arc de Triomphe. Its museums are unparalleled, and the Louvre and the Orsay boast some of the most important art in history.

Paris will meet all your expectations and more. Take a walk down the Seine and watch couples waltz on its banks. Eat in its restaurants and enjoy French cuisine, or frequent its many cafes and boulangeries, or bakeries. Explore one of its many gardens, such as the Jardin du Luxembourg, where you can enjoy the pristine gardening techniques that France is famous for.

When it comes to bidets, you are truly spoiled for choice, and you must ask yourself, “Where to stay when bidets abound?” How about Maison Souquet[3], a historic building that recreates the glory of the Belle Époque, one of the most infamous periods of Paris’s history?

The building once served as a pleasure house, and the Maison Souquet faithfully recreates the elegant extravagance. Located in Montmartre, an easy distance from the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur that defines Paris’s skyline, this hotel is full of whimsy and delight. Take the inside pool that is fully tiled in cobalt with a golden map of the solar system overhead, or the lounge, which is richly covered in red velvet.

In keeping with the drama of the rest of the hotel, the bathrooms are decorated in black tile and golden wallpaper. You can rest on your bidet and feel yourself transported more than a century into the past.

3. New Orleans—Windsor Court Hotel

In second place is NOLA, or the “Big Easy.” New Orleans is famous for its nightlife, cuisine, and music scene, as well as its fascinating blend of French, African, and American culture.

It’s best known as the location of Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras is the last day before Lent when Christians traditionally fast for the season before Easter; the festival took on a life of its own in New Orleans because of its French heritage.

With its vibrant party scene and spicy food, a bidet in your hotel becomes a must. Luckily, the Windsor Court Hotel[4] is here to help. True to its French roots, this hotel has a bidet in every room.

Located near the French Quarter, the Arts District, and the Mississippi River, the hotel, with its district combination of French and Southern style, combines old-world luxury and modern amenities. It offers a spa and fitness center, as well as a salon for Afternoon Tea.

Now for the main event, the bathroom continues the classic style of the hotel rooms. The vanity is spacious with a luxurious, upholstered chair for applying makeup before afternoon tea or a night out. The suites include plush robes and slippers so that you can pamper yourself.

The toilet is set apart in its own room so that you can enjoy your bidet experience in privacy.

4. Kerry, Ireland—Shelburne Lodge

In fourth place is Kerry, a county located in the very southwest corner of Ireland. It is the home of the Lakes of Killarney, three lakes that are famous for their haunting natural beauty. It’s also an extremely mountainous region containing the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks range with Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s largest mountain.

With its coast facing the Atlantic Ocean, Kerry has many inlets and peninsulas, and its rugged coastline is one of its most picturesque features. The rolling emerald grass stands in stark contrast to the bright blue ocean, separated by steep cliffs.

How better to enjoy Kerry County than at the Shelburne Lodge[5], a bed and breakfast in Kenmare? A family-run establishment, they have welcomed guests for more than twenty years in Kenmare’s oldest home, dating back to 1775, older even than the town itself.

Each room is furnished with antiques and contemporary Irish art, lending a local flair to the cozy rooms. The bathrooms are all tiled in a very classic style, and each bathroom contains, you guessed it, a bidet.

Whether you’re hiking the mountain ranges or staying closer to home with traditional tourist attractions such as Our Lady’s Well, the Stone Circle, and Cromwell’s Bridge, you’ll have the comfort of Shelburne Lodge to return to as well as your personal bidet.

5. Marrakesh, Morocco—Es Saadi Marrakech Resort Palace

Seated in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains is the city of Marrakesh. The historic walled city lies in the Tensift River valley, with the river running along the city’s northern edge. The snowcapped Atlas Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop. Despite its desert location, the town itself is an oasis of greenery. In its many gardens, orange, pomegranate, fig, and olive trees flourish, alongside many other species, both native and imported.

The city walls of Marrakesh stretch for 12 miles around the city and were built in the 12th century. They are the city’s most defining feature, as their distinctive hue gave Marrakesh its nickname, the “Red City.” Jemaa el-Fnaa is world-famous and combines both the past and present of Morocco in one bustling square.

The shopping experience is incredibly unique and rich, tapping into the extensive local tradition. The city values its crafts and tradespeople, and there are 18 souks, the local bazaars that sell pottery, leather, copper, and other locally created crafts.

If you want to be at the heart of it all, consider staying at the Es Saadi Marrakech Resort Palace[6]. Located in one of the famous parks, it’s only a short walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa. It also features an enormous outdoor pool to soak in the desert heat.

The rooms are spacious and luxurious, and the bathrooms are no exception. They come either in gorgeous tile or dark granite, with beautiful detailing on the vanity and mirrors. Your bidet will welcome you home from a day exploring the gardens and souks and truly help make your visit to Marrakesh both memorable and comfortable.

6. Sydney, Australia—Park Hyatt Sydney

Sydney is a bustling metropolis and a must-see destination. Home to the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, as well as the Royal Botanic Garden and fifteen other parks. Sydney is also famous for its wide range of architecture, ranging from Gothic to avant-garde modern buildings by renowned architects.

Alongside its high position as a tourism destination, it’s also in the top ten most livable cities in the world, in case you’re thinking about making a long stay. It’s one of the most diverse cities in the world, with an immigrant population only behind New York and London.

Between the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge is the Park Hyatt Sydney[7]. The height of Sydney luxury, the hotel offers unparalleled views of both these landmarks and the busy harbor. Each room comes with a private balcony so that you can soak up the scenery and fresh sea breeze from the privacy of your room.

The rooms are airy and modern, featuring huge windows. Not to be outdone by the view, the bathroom features both a heated toilet seat and a TOTO bidet, truly a cherry on top of a magnificent hotel experience.

7. The Maldives—Hurawalhi Island Resort

A startlingly gorgeous tropical paradise, the Maldives come in at six on our list. Located off the coast of India, the Maldives are an archipelago made up of 1190 islands.

The Maldives has a rich culture dating back many centuries. You can spectate their folk dances and partake in the local cuisine of seafood and curry, along with diverse street food. From their long history of Islam, the islands are home to many Mosques and tombs.

The beaches are unparalleled. The azure Indian Ocean laps against pristine beaches in scenes that look too beautiful to be real. The warm water is home to extraordinary marine diversity and a gorgeous coral reef. If you visit Vaadhoo Island, you’ll get to see the Sea of Stars, a beach that lights up with luminescent plankton to make a scene that rivals the sky in beauty.

The Hurawalhi Island Resort[8] is the perfect way to experience the tropical beach retreat of your dreams. Located in the middle of a gorgeous lagoon, this resort is home to the world’s largest all-glass undersea restaurant.

The resort is made up of individual villas standing on stilts in shallow water with a huge veranda and a spacious interior. The bathrooms offer a soothing, spa-like experience in grey stone with a stand-alone tub, and of course, a bidet situated behind a privacy wall to complete your island experience.

8. Cape Town, South Africa—Boutique @ 10

Cape Town is the capital of South Africa, and has been rated as the best place in the world to visit by The New York Times and the Daily Telegraph, and it’s not hard to see why. Cape Town earns its spot on your bucket list with the beauty of its rolling hills, its distinctive pink buildings, and bright water paired with a multitude of things to see and do.

Table Mountain is one of the city’s biggest draws. You can either hike or take the Table Mountain Cableway for the scenic aerial route to the top. From there, you have a fantastic view of the City Bowl, a part of the city that is shaped like an amphitheater, with three sides bordered by mountains and the last facing the ocean.

The beaches in Cape Town each have a distinct identity; you’ll be startled by the difference in the climate when you travel between them. Visit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and enjoy an incredible retail and dining experience.

To enjoy a cozy stay on the beach, book a stay at the Boutique @ 10[9], a bed and breakfast located in Camps Bay. Boasting panoramic views of the beach and coast that go on farther than the eye can see, the Boutique @ 10 is conveniently located near a famous restaurant strip.

The hotel’s design is described as “old-school,” with brass and polished wood featured in the bedrooms and bathrooms. While you use your bidet after a long day enjoying the beach, spend time looking at the distinctive carved elephant’s head that sits in the bathroom.

9. Dubai, U.A.E.—Burj Al Arab

The city with the highest population and capital of the Emirate of Dubai, Dubai, grew from a humble fishing village established in the 1700s to become a thriving metropolis containing the tallest building in the world. Dubai places a big emphasis on tourism and comes in second place among the five-star hotels in the world.

If you want retail therapy on a massive scale, look no further than Dubai. Called the “Shopping Capital of the Middle East,” Dubai is home to the world’s largest shopping center, the Dubai Mall. If you’re looking for something more local, they have several historical souk districts if you want to browse the city’s bazaars.

If you are interested in animals, you can also visit other famous tourist attractions such as the Dolphinarium, attend exotic bird shows, and ride camels.

Visiting such a chic city, you’re going to want to go big or go home. When you stay in the Burj Al Arab[10], you’re not just staying in a hotel; you’re staying in the iconic symbol of Dubai. The hotel’s remarkable wave-shaped architecture is recognizable anywhere. Dine in with Michelin-starred chefs and enjoy private beach access in this ultimate luxury hotel.

And what pairs best with ultimate luxury? The ultimate bathroom experience. The bathrooms in the suites have elaborate, classically inspired decorative tile, matched with distinct red and blue accents and a huge inset pool. When you use your bidet at the end of a long day shopping, you can rest assured it doesn’t get better than this.

10. Bora Bora, French Polynesia—The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort

Finishing off our top ten locations to put on your bucket list is Bora Bora, the most famous of Tahiti’s islands. With a name that comes from words “created by the gods” in the local dialect, what else can you expect than something magical?

You can snorkel or scuba dive in the central lagoon. There are many exciting shark and ray species in the area, and the brave will have the opportunity to feed the sharks (who aren’t dangerous to humans) and dive with the rays.

While the island, of course, focuses mainly on beach and ocean activities, you can also see relics such as cannons from Bora Bora’s role in World War II.

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort[11] has the largest overwater villas in the South Pacific, so you can bring the whole family or leave them behind and spread out. Enjoy the resort’s spa or take a load off at the swim-up bar.

You’ll have a fantastic view of Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the twin peaks of the dead volcano that sits in the center of Bora Bora. Tan during the hot, bright days and drift off comfortably in the warm nights.

The bathrooms are enormous, with a long vanity, a dramatically curved inset bathtub, and polished dark wood floors. Every night, after you’ve enjoyed Bora Bora, you can truly be thankful that you chose to spend your time on an island created by the gods in a villa with a bidet.
